YURI SHIMMYO

I am a printmaker and painter. I draw inspiration from what I see around me and happenings in my life. Originally from Japan, I have been calling Australia home for most of my life. I think my background in both cultures influence my art. I enjoy the process of etching and linocuts and I love the element of surprise when I see what reveals after each stage of working on the plate. Currently, I am exploring the reduction linocut to see the effects of colour and tone in each layer. I think both my love of painting and printmaking influence each other.
