PETER MACKIE
Working across a diverse range of printmaking mediums, my practice is largely focused on studio-based explorations of the figure and ground – this starts with a model or source material and is slowly adapted through a repetitive process of addition, subtraction and reworking.
I've always held a long fascination with psychology and the intersection of culture, unconscious drives, and physiological symbolism. As such, many of my works see individuals represented in a narrative context that can incorporate my current interests in the areas of philosophy, film, literature, history and contemporary culture.
I place my work in a direction that focuses on the figure as a culturally embedded subject and an emotional document.
