ELIZABETH COWELL
My current art practice is focused on the interpretation of space and form in architecture. My works refer to the layers of forms, multiplicity of patterns and ever-changing light and shadow that I encounter in a city and its public interiors. I aim to interpret the atmosphere, density and complexity that envelops me in both two- and three-dimensional abstract forms. I often work from maquettes to experiment with screen printed forms before enlarging these to create installation pieces that suggest an architectural environment. These are often photographed and form the basis of etched or screen-printed works. Lighting is also a fundamental part of viewing my installation work as the shadows and reflections created are key to its presentation.
